It is one of the burning topic for all the philosophers both in the West as well as in the East. Jeeva(the soul) has no independency to do any act. It is only God who motivates the Jeeva to all actions.

If this is accepted then when Jeeva does a wrong act, the punishment should be given not to the Jeeva but to God is the logic. But the real crux of the situation is answered by Sri Madhwacharya, the founder of Dvaita School of Philosophy. He has shown by authority that God takes into account uniformly three factors for each action of each Jeeva. And there is no discrimination at all.

The three factors are :

1. The nature of the Soul - Swabhava
2. Its Anadhikarma - Beginingless Karma
3. The effort.
